Knipefold Barn

Written by Ann Woolley on

Knipefold is a gorgeous barn conversion in Outgate near to Hawkshead in the heart of the Lake District National Park. The accommodation has been tastefully and luxuriously furnished with traditional flagged floors, oak woodwork, underfloor heating, beautiful bedsteads and Villeroy and Boch bathroom fittings. A lift has been installed between the three floors to make access easy for disabled guests.

Every modern comfort has been thought of whilst maintaining the numerous original features, beams and quirky angled windows in the bathrooms. There is a pretty garden where you can sit with a coffee or glass of wine and take in the sweeping views south over the valley towards Hawkshead and Esthwaite Water.

The cottage has a real ‘away from it all’ feel; you will not be disturbed by passing traffic here, however, many of the major attractions of the district are to be found on the doorstep. Less than 4 miles away you will find the National Trust properties of Wray Castle and Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top house at Near Sawrey, also the quaint village of Hawkshead and the popular pretty town of Ambleside.

Just over a mile from Knipefold you will find the traditional Outgate Inn and also the renowned chic gastropub the Drunken Duck; perfect for a leisurely stroll and a delicious lunch. Of course there are many lovely walks directly from the Barn with the picturesque Tarn Hows being a favourite and less than a couple of miles away. Tarn Hows is accessable all year round and you can even hire mobility scooters from the National Trust to use around the lake.

You will find a warm welcome at Knipefold Barn with the fridge stocked with juice and milk and the possibility of ‘Herdy’ sheep shortbread or scones made by the owner.

You can also order from the local milkman anything from milk, bacon, butter, cheese and birdseed! There is everything you need at Knipefold Barn for a truly memorable holiday.
