Bonfire Night 2011

Written by Natalie Barker on

Bonfires seem to be a dying art. Amid fears of having to fill out huge piles of Health & Safety paperwork (rather than actually being too worried about Health & Safety), local authorities have made having a bonfire very difficult. Thankfully this year sees the return of Chapel Stile Bonfire which is in the best tradition of village life built & run by local residents. No formal firework display just whoever comes with their own box will let of rockets, bangers & if we’re lucky a ‘Traffic Light’ under adult supervision (in fashion terms it’s a bit of a 70s/80s retro theme). If you are after more impressive fireworks you can always wait until 8pm when Wainwrights in will have their firework display in the field next door. We’re really looking forward to it with our kids. Then afterwards (9pm) we’ll head down to The Britannia Inn in Elterwater for what is always a fantastic firework display laid on by the staff at the pub.

However you’re enjoying Bonfire night we hope all goes well, be careful, have fun & hopefully it won’t rain.

If you can’t make it to Chapel Stile  there’s a few more suggestions for where to catch some more organized displays on Saturday 5th 2011:

  • Hawkshead – Bonfire & Fireworks at 6.30pm
  • Kendal Castle, Kendal – Fireworks at 7.30pm
  • Wainwrights Inn, Chapel Stile – Fireworks at 8pm
  • Britannia Inn, Elterwater – Fireworks at 9pm
