Sometimes you get lucky

The Lake District, bane of UK weather forecasting. We can almost guarantee to have varying weather patterns not just from valley to valley but sometimes from one end of a valley to another. With this in mind it’s almost impossible to book local tradesmen with any hope of hitting the right weather for the right job, we just live in hope. This week someone up there is smiling down on us, we’d booked Roofers to come & replace the rear portion of the slate roof on Rose Cottage. The week didn’t start well but has matured into a glorious warm September week. No holdups has meant all the work needed should be finished by the end of today ready for guest arrival on Saturday. Whilst much of the roof is new slate, efforts have been made to preserve the slate already there with about half of the old being reused on the new roof.

We’ve also used the opportunity of an empty week to add some new lights in the lounge and attack some of those niggling little jobs that appear during a long season. Rose Cottage is now ready for the winter season where it is used slightly less as a base for long walks and becomes more popular for it’s open fire & proximity to The Britannia Inn

Speaking of ‘The Brit’ they’ve also been using the good weather to tear up and re-lay the terrace area outside the entrance, I’m not sure I’ve ever seem so many people willing to offer a hand for the promise of some free beer.
