The Good Life Cottage Company is proud to support Nurture Lakeland, our nominated charity.
Originally launched as the Lake District Tourism and Conservation Partnership in 1994, Nurture Lakeland was rebranded in 2008, coinciding with the increased impacts of climate change.
Throughout this time they have supported hundreds of conservation projects and tourism businesses, helping them to increase energy efficiency and market their green credentials. Not only this, but the charity has maintained efforts to promote sustainable tourism and continue to care for and protect the environment.
Along the way, Nurture Lakeland has received numerous awards (which we think were greatly deserved!) and represented responsible tourism on the Lake District National Park Partnership and the Business Task Force - impressive!
Sue Jackson, Chair of Nurture Lakeland states; “Thanks to our dedicated team, Nurture Lakeland continues to support diverse projects throughout the Lake District and The Eden Valley and, with the continued support of its members, the organisation goes from strength to strength”.
Just a few examples of the fantastic campaigns Nurture Lakeland have been involved with include:
- ‘Low Carbon Cottages’ - where they have helped train businesses in energy efficiency and conservation with the aim to reduce carbon emissions.
- ‘Love your Lakes’ - which raised awareness of septic tank maintenance and phosphate free cleaning products to improve the quality of water at Lake Windermere and the surrounding meres.
- ‘Fix the Fells’ - a brilliant fundraising initiative to support vital maintenance and repair of the Lakeland Fells, raising over £19000 in donations.
Unfortunately, tourism can sometimes have negative local impacts on destinations and that’s why, when booking with us, we include the option of donating £1 to Nurture Lakeland - a small but simple way to ensure this wonderful charity can continue to help visitors of Cumbria and the Lake District enjoy a sustainable and unspoilt landscape on their holidays.
Nurture Lakeland is part of Nurture Cumbria, a registered charity, number 1130453.
