Swallows House is a spacious, luxury house situated in the tiny hamlet of Skelwith Fold, which enjoys stunning views over the River Brathay towards Loughrigg and the Fairfield Horseshoe. Set in a large, well maintained garden, it is a haven for a great variety of birds and wildlife.
Swallows offers peace and tranquillity; a gathering place for the whole family but, since it is situated in the heart of the Lakes, it provides an excellent base for walking or touring the surrounding fells and lakes; Wordsworth's, Beatrix Potter's and Ruskin's homes are located nearby.
Parts of the house date back to the 17th century. The current owners have lovingly restored the house which provides generous accommodation for up to eight people in wonderful surrounding. Every room is beautifully appointed, with high quality furnishings providing relaxing comfort. The ground floor plan shows the large lounge, with open log-burning fire place and bay window with wide views of the surrounding fells; an elegant dining room, with a large oak table - for that family celebration?; a comfortable sitting room, with French doors opening onto the garden patio - for that BBQ or glass of wine; a high spec. kitchen, with range cooker and circular granite breakfast table; games room; study, with broadband connection; boot and shower rooms and a further wc/ cloakroom.
Upstairs there are four tastefully furnished, spacious double bedrooms (2 king-sized, 1 double & 1 twin), all with breath-taking views. The ensuite and family bathrooms are fitted with Villeroy Boch. The house is centrally heated throughout.
There are many circular walks from the house; the renowned Chester's and Drunken Duck Inn are less than a mile away. There is private parking for 4 cars and a garage.
Recent guest comments "eating, sleeping and relaxing in luxurious surroundings"; "wonderful to return to this lovely house"; "our 3rd stay well be back next year"; "amazed by the birds in the garden."

Comment: What a great place to welcome the first week of summer weather in 2010. Even the garage has a stunning view!. We've been coming to the Lakes every year for many years but have never stayed in a finer house/home. We enjoyed every aspect of it including the fine dining room (we were inspired to buy the wines to match), and the wonderful terrace for late afternoon tea and early evening drinks.
When not dining in would recommend the Three Shire Inn (Little Langdale).
Good cycling around the lake and good walking above Elterwater, over Dow Crag, Old man of Coniston and The Langdales.
We hope to come back here sometime, perhaps for a winter week.

Comment: 3 couple came from Collingham. We threw away our keys and left the car.
A walk a day, a pub per walk and meal every night. Crisp and frosty during the day, roaring fire by night. Elterwater, Coniston we did them all and Langdale pikes we saw from a distance.
Swallows house provided the perfect base - we will have to come back to improve our skittles and table football skills, as well as see if the Robin is king of the new bird feeders.
