Situated in the centre of Chapel Stile, Pilgrims Rest used to be home to the Vicar of Holy Trinity Church (30 yds up the hill). Since the building of the new vicarage it's been used as a part time residence and is currently owned by the Walmsley family who run 'The Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel' further up Langdale Valley. Neil & Jayne have put a great deal of themselves into the property and still enjoy staying there with the family, at various times in the year.
The house is in a superb position overlooking much of the village & surrounding fells. Only two minutes walk from the door to the shop & a further minute to the Pub. A spacious property with a traditional large porch leading into a central entrance hallway, from the hall is a large dining room with antique mahogany table, comfortable seating for eight and dresser filled with lots of antique crockery - a super place to have your family dinner. Opposite is a good sized living room with gas fire, comfortable couches and TV/DVD player with Freeview. At the rear of the house is the kitchen with its own entry porch (ideal for muddy boot removal) the kitchen is Oak and has a traditional green oil fired Aga and breakfast table. A small TV with freeview ensures whoever cooks, doesn't have to miss 'Eastenders' or 'Corrie'. The second kitchen with cooker is ideal if a really big meal is in order, with washer/dryer and wine storage too. Just off this room is a downstairs w/c and hand-wash basin.
Upstairs are four spacious bedrooms, three doubles and a twin room. The two doubles at the front of the house offer fantastic views over the village, both have seating in the bay windows if you want to have some peace and quiet. The master double has its own shower room, while the other bedrooms share the main bathroom and separate toilet.
Outside the enclosed terraced garden with stream, offers ample space for BBQs and eating out in the summer, with table just outside the door. Parking for 3 to 4 cars.

Comment: We stayed at Pilgrim's Rest four weeks ago and just wanted to say what a wonderful place it is - perfect for a family get-together. The house and location were beautiful, the rooms spacious and the Aga was very efficient. We spent most of the time in the house sitting around the huge kitchen table talking, eating and drinking and warming ourselves on the Aga. The garden was great for the dog - he couldn't get out and there wasn't anything he could damage. Chapel Stile itself was ideal - walks from the door, the shop and cafe on the doorstep and two pubs within walking distance. After a few days we didn't even notice the church clock chiming!
All it needed to make it even more perfect was an open fire and a second shower!
A great week for all the family - 8 adults and the dog!. Thank you.
